Swavely chooses Maine
Wayne, NJ - The Jersey Hitmen are proud to announce that forward, Jon Swavely, has accepted a scholarship to the University of Maine for the fall of '10. Currently the second leading scorer in the EJHL with a 25-40-65 line, Swavely is the Hitmen's 6th division one commitment and ninth player to commit for the fall of 2010.
A native of Reading, PA, Swavely was a free agent signing over the summer. "I invited Jon to play with us in the EJHL spring classic, after current Hitman, Mike Slowikowski called me on Jon. Once I saw him in action, I knew that he was going to be an impact player for us this season," commented coach Harris. "Jon is a special kid. He comes to work every day, he is always up-beat, and not once this season did ever take a shift off. I am so excited for Jon and his family and know that the University of Maine is getting a tremendous player, but more importantly they are getting an incredible person."
Since January 1st, Jon has lead the Hitmen to a 15-0-2 record notching 30 points in that stretch. "I am ecstatic to be afforded the opportunity at the University of Maine," said Swavely. "I can not thank Coach Harris and Hunt enough, and my family for supporting me through my years of junior hockey. Playing in Hockey East, and playing for a team that has a chance to win a national championship every year excites me. I look forward to playing for Coach Whitehead, Kerluke and Corkum and being part of the storied tradition in Orono."
Swavely and the Hitmen will be in action this weekend as they face-off against the South Shore Kings Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 11am, both games will be played at the Capital One Ice Vault Arena.
